Celebrate Waitangi Day at Okahu Bay or Barry Curtis Park in Manukau this Sunday.

Both are free family events with culture, food, art, live entertainment and kids’ rides.

There is another reason to visit wonderful Waiheke Island this month, with the Headland Sculpture on the Gulf exhibition. The exhibition runs until the end of February and features over 40 large scale works exhibited along 2km of the island’s spectacular coastal walkway.
Create Your Own Eden. North - Create Your Own Eden
Take a free class on how to create an eco-friendly composting home. The 3-hour session will teach the three main composting systems - traditional bin, worm-farm and Bokashi bucket. First class is Thursday 3 February, 6 - 9pm at Meadowood Community Centre, 55 Meadowood Drive, Meadowood. Bookings essential. Phone Kaipatiki Project (09) 482 1172 or email them.
Super Gold Summer Sport. East - Super Gold Summer Sport
Meet new friends and enjoy being active with the free Super Gold Summer Sport series every Wednesday until the end of March. On Wednesday 9 February it’s Tai Chi at Vellenoweth Green, St Heliers from 10am - 12pm. Sign in at 9.45am, exercise until 11am, then enjoy socialising and refreshments until noon. Register with Emma Morgan on (09) 354 2037, as space is limited. Anyone over 65 is welcome.
Galaxy of Cars. West - Galaxy of Cars
Check out more than 600 cars, from model Ts to hot rods, and enjoy live music, entertainment for the kids, and steam train rides. It’s all for a good cause too, as a New Lynn Lions Club fundraiser with all proceeds to the Starship Foundation. Sunday 6 February 10am - 3pm, MOTAT, Meola Road site, Western Springs. Tickets $10 adults, $4 children under 16, under 5s free.
Mangere Mountain. South - Mangere Mountain guided walks
Explore Mangere Mountain this month with guided walks. On Saturday 5 February the ‘volcanic walk’ from 4 - 6pm explores the geological features, while the second walk on Tuesday 8 February from 5 - 7pm delves into the mountain’s Maori history. $10 cost per walk. Meet at Mangere Mountain Education Centre 15 minutes prior to the walk.
